PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

ROADTEC Z6 INTERACT represents Metzeler way of innovation. Instead of pushing on a single element of the tyre like the compound which is then subjected to wear, Metzeler established that is more effective to improve the whole tyre system. Making the tyre elements interact to the maximum level means improving the interaction between the tyre and the ground, the tyre and the bike, the tyre and the external environment. This is the key of the new INTERACT technology. ROADTEC Z6 was perfection, ROADTEC Z6 INTERACT is the evolution, the fine tuning which guarantees it to be the perfect tyre for the new generation of bikes and riders.

With a rapidly evolving performance cruiser market, Avon Tyres, a Cooper Tire & Rubber Company brand recognized for its heritage and top quality tyres, have listened long and hard to what their cruiser, custom and touring customers demand from a tyre. Handling, durability and aesthetics were high on the list. So when it came to replacing the extremely popular Venom-R, Avon has more than met these requirements with an exciting new tyre range called Cobra.

With its unique snakeskin sidewalls, aggressive tread pattern and low noise emissions, Cobra silently defeats all roads that stand in its path. While performance figures and the weight of custom cruiser and touring bikes continue to escalate, Cobra is a tyre that coils around these opposing attributes to allow the rider to exploit them like never before.

The new ContiGO ! is here to succeed the product lines TK, TKH and TKV. In the development of the new tyre it was important to give it a broad working range, making it suitable also for classics, youngtimers and newcomers’ bikes, giving these categories the opportunity to roll on a modern tyre.

The latest compound technology makes it possible to take care of the conflicting situations demanding good grip in all situations, even in cold and wet weather. This was the most important factor in the dialled-in factors, to make the tyre perfect for all-year use. Long life, also an important prerogative, was achieved thanks to new developments of special bondings within the rubber structure.

Compared to the BT-014 it will progressively replace, the new BT-016 provides total handling improvement in all riding modes – with noticeably better contact feel, feedback, stability and grip – as well as longer wear life and lower noise levels.

In order to announce the birth of the new Diablo Rosso, Pirelli has chosen a brand new communication codex that focuses its attention on product characteristics, dedicated to the last generation Supersport and naked bikes.
The result is an evocative concept-movie with a fictional storyline: the birth of a new biker who finds himself in thrall to the performance and charm of Diablo Rosso

Updated 2023 - Unfortunately, it was to be expected that such a special tire size would no longer be produced. Therefore, all Ducati Desmosedici RR owners now have to change the rear rim to 17 inches and change the tires to the more common rear tire size, e.g. 200/55 ZR17 or 200/50ZR17.

This is not a normal tyre review; in fact the tyre we test in the video below is still a prototype. It's call the Dunlop SportMax RoadSmart and to say it is an important tyre for Dunlop would be a massive understatement.

Check out the video below to see our exclusive test of the prototype tyre.

Bridgestone UK has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of Andrew Whitehead as manager for its motorcycle division. According to an official company statement, Whitehead’s primary role will be to “secure Bridgestone’s market share of quality motorbike tyres.” This portfolio includes the new Battlax BT-021, a long-term replacement for the successful BT-020, the market-leading sport touring tyre.

“It’s an exciting time to join the motorcycle division following the official launch of the BT-021,” said Whitehead. “It’s a fantastic product, and the positive feedback we’ve received about the handling and performance capabilities of the tyre leads us to believe it will make a real impact in the market. The BT-020 is an incredibly tough act to follow, but my focus is to ensure the BT-021, and the rest of the Bridgestone motorbike range, can generate equally impressive unit sales.

Andrew Whitehead, 44, formerly worked in a sales capacity for Bridgestone’s truck division following a six year stint at Dunlop, where he was also responsible for truck and motorcycle tyre sales.

For every motorcyclist who loves enduro, Metzeler is a brand which represents a particular value, an image of excellence and a tradition of success. Street enduro riders view the Metzeler TOURANCE as the product which sets the standard. Metzeler technicians have pressed on with their development work and have come up with a new product in response to the increasing specialisation of bikes in this class.

This was the origin of the TOURANCE EXP, which stands out for its delivery of maximum performance in the sports touring which modern maxi-enduros allow, without sacrificing the possibility of taking light off-road detours in its stride. To ensure the level of excellence which Metzeler has always offered its enthusiasts, and to put Metzeler once again in lead position with this innovative product, the new TOURANCE EXP is the first tyre to equip not just the rear but the front as well with Metzeler’s patented solution of the zero degree spiral wound steel belt. With an aggressive design and world-class performance, the TOURANCE EXP is being launched to meet the characteristic requirements for this kind of riding – stability, long tyre life and grip in the wet – thanks to the advanced Metzeler technology applied to the various components of this product. Compound, structure, tread design: all the elements have been designed to offer the maximum performance.

The new reference point for street tyres

Developed from our highly successful Sportmax Qualifier and Sportmax GP Racer tyres, the Qualifier RR combines selected elements of each of those tyres to create the ultimate Dunlop Hypersport tyre.

  • Triple Tread compound for increased grip at every lean angle but especially so during extreme cornering. Triple Tread Compound also delivers faster warm-up, improved wet road grip, better grip consistency. Other crucial benfits are increased stability when accelerating and braking hard aswell as when transitioning from upright to full lean.
  • Tread pattern based on the Sportmax GP Racer and the championship-winning Sportmax GP optimises pattern stiffness for increased grip and cornering feedback as well as excellent water drainage.
  • Dunlop's Jointless Belt (JLB) rear tyre construction reduces contact patch distortion, minimises the effect of centrifugal force and lessens internal stresses thereby reducing excessive heat build-up and improving high-speed stability.
  • New tyre profiles improve agility and reduce steering effort.

The Michelin Pilot GT is the all-new tire for the Honda GL1500 Gold Wing, featuring the latest advances in rubber composition, carcass construction and profile. It delivers exceptional handling, maneuverability and mileage, without compromising wet or dry grip. Though the GL1500 is out of production, its tire sizes consistently rank among the top ten in unit sales. Capture a piece of this important market with the new Michelin Pilot GT.

  • Four crossed plies in the front tire carcass provide excellent stability both in a straight line and while cornering
  • Optimized tread thickness helps minimize shimmy both when the tire is new and at the end of its tread life
  • Triangulated front profi le facilitates low-speed maneuverability
  • Three crossed plies and two crown plies help make the rear carcass highly resistant to side loads
  • Distinct rubber mixes for front and rear tires are optimized for durability, grip, and traction
  • Bias Ply construction

AVON PRESENTA UN NOUVA SPORT TOURING TYRE

Avon is to launch a new sport-touring tyre range named Storm-ST, replacing its highly popular Azaro-ST product. Storm-ST has already been tested and approved for fitment to all major motorcycles in conjunction with the well-respected German TUV agency.

Available from Autumn 2006, Storm-ST is available in 15 sizes:

Fronts AV55 - 110/70ZR17, 110/80ZR18, 120/60ZR17, 120/70ZR17, 120/70ZR18, 130/70ZR17

Rears - AV56 150/70ZR17, 150/70ZR18, 160/60ZR17, 160/70ZR17, 160/60ZR18, 170/60ZR17, 180/55ZR17, 190/50ZR17, 200/50ZR17.
Storm-ST is the first tyre to include Avon’s new ‘Reactive Footprint’ [RF] technology.
Reactive Footprint technology marries Avon’s unique variable belt density [VBD] carcass with Lifetime Profile Engineering [LPE] to produce a footprint which changes size and shape, depending on the bike’s lean angle, for the full life of the tyre.

The result is a contact patch that grows as the bike leans, giving more grip in corners whilst minimising wear rates when travelling in a straight line.

This technological breakthrough could eliminate the need to use dual compounds and would help solve the uneven wear problems associated with them.
Pete McNally, Avon’s Motorcycle Product Manager explained, “These new technologies combine to make a tyre that doesn’t just handle well when new but also in the last 25% of its life.” He continued, “With Storm-ST it’s not just the compound that’s harder in the centre and softer at the edges, it’s the whole tyre. We believe we are the first manufacturer to produce a reactive footprint tyre for motorcycles.”

In addition to Reactive Footprint technology and Lifetime Profile Engineering, Storm-ST is bristling with an impressive array of advanced features:
A new Super-Rich Silica compound [SRS] delivers sure-footed grip in both wet and dry conditions and allows the tyre to quickly warm up to reach optimum working temperatures.

‘Inverted Front Grooves’ (IFG) on the front tyre, a system pioneered by Avon in the late eighties and only now being adopted by the competition, resists ‘stepped-wear’ and ‘cupping’ to deliver smooth handling throughout the tyre’s life. A further advantage of the IFG configuration is improved wet braking and shorter stopping distances.

Motorcycle Tires Under Extreme Load: A Look at the Physics of Grip

This text dives into the extreme stresses placed on motorcycle tires at high speeds, highlighting the impressive performance of these seemingly simple components.

Forces at Play:

  • < 200 HP: The engine's immense power needs to be transferred to the road through the tire, posing a huge challenge for grip.
  • < 270 km/h (168 mph): At this speed, the tire rotates 1.5 times per second and travels 4.5 km (2.8 miles) further than the front tire due to "spin" caused by slippage.
  • Torque: The engine's gearing amplifies torque at the rear wheel, resulting in strong pulling force.
  • 1450 Newtons: This immense force pushes the motorcycle and rider through the wind, with the tire providing the frictional force necessary for forward movement.
  • 150 kg (330 lbs) Wheel Load: The motorcycle's weight rests on the tire, further increasing friction and wear.
  • 4.5% Slip: At high speeds, some slippage is unavoidable, leading to heat generation and wear.
  • 100 Degrees Celsius Rubber Temperature: Frictional heat can significantly raise the rubber temperature, affecting its properties and grip.
  • 270 Newtons Centrifugal Force: The centrifugal force on each individual belt thread within the tire is enormous and can lead to structural damage.
