DUNLOP GEOMAX MX33 launched.

  • Geomax MX33: Successor to the MX3S soft terrain tyre
  • New MXGP proven technologies
  • An industry first from Dunlop – an MX tyre for multi-terrain use

Last year, Dunlop tested new technologies in MXGP races. An improved tread pattern was tested with tie-bars between shoulder blocks.

This, coupled with a new block arrangement provided higher resistance against cracking when ridden on firm intermediate terrain. Dunlop also found this resistance was also helped by an all-new compound with higher shear resistance. By incorporating such technologies into the Geomax MX33, Dunlop has created a tyre with a greater range of capabilities than its forerunner, the race-winning Geomax MX3S.

Metzeler's off-road tires with extreme traction and versatility from rally racing

METZELER KAROO EXTREME

Arrangement of the blocks for traction in the sand and in extreme off-road conditions.
Stability, durability and high mileage for all off-road long hauls.
Possible applications in all off-road conditions, as well as on the feeder roads.
The tire has a high stability when driving straight ahead at high speeds

For the Geomax MX 12, Dunlop’s U.S. race team joined forces with DPG and Dunlop’s European MXGP World Championship racing team to develop the tire on tracks here and in Europe, including testing on some of Europe’s “bottomless sand” tracks on the world MX championship schedule.

Designed for soft-terrain applications, the MX12 excels in extreme sand and mud conditions. Dunlop’s goal with this tire was to increase overall performance in a broader range of conditions—for example maintaining the tire’s high level of grip on muddy tracks even when the mud begins to dry out.

Pit bikes or pocket bikes are mini motorcycles that fathers use to introduce their young children to the world of motorcycling. There are various organizers of these small racing series where the little ones can compete against each other and get their first taste of racing. Even the ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) organizes a Pocket Bike Cup, which has been held for the 22nd time in 2017.

These 4-horsepower bikes are miniature versions of large racing motorcycles and currently run on PMT standard tires. Only tires from PMT are permitted. No other tires from other manufacturers or sizes may be used.

  • Front wheel: Junior 90/65 R 6.5
  • Rear wheel: Junior 90/65 R 6.5

In addition to the fun that everyone is supposed to have, it's also about hundredths of a second, so the motorcycles are eagerly tinkered with.

Other tire manufacturers also offer suitable tires for these small bikes. There are different motorcycle tires for every application, such as slicks, motocross, street, etc.

MICHELIN is taking part in the 2011 Dakar Rally (Moto class event) - alongside its official partners KTM, BMW, Aprilia and Yamaha - with the MICHELIN Desert Race tires developed specifically for the new 450cc bikes.

The MICHELIN Desert Race tire delivers improved handling and grip as well as superior lateral stability and outstanding longevity.

The new tire is the result of Michelin’s 30 years of experience in cross-country rallying. Developed by engineers at the MICHELIN Technology Center in Clermont-Ferrand, the MICHELIN Desert Race has been adapted for the new 450cc prototype factory bikes.

The 450cc bikes developed by manufacturers make different demands on tires than the 690cc bikes of the past,” explains Christophe Chatras, head of off-road motorcycle racing.

“The new machines are lighter, their weight is apportioned differently and the engine power is more effectively managed and transferred to the ground. In fact, the 450cc factory bikes deliver very high performance and thus make considerable demands on tires. The new MICHELIN Desert Race was developed for use with these new-generation motorcycles. It’s a versatile product that is suitable for the Dakar Rally’s different kinds of terrain, such as rocky trails and sand. Since last summer, the new MICHELIN Desert Race has undergone some 3,000 kilometers of tests in race conditions, including a number of stages of the Shamrock Rally. The results speak for themselves.”

The new tyre was developed and tested by top riders on the MX competition circuit. By deploying the new design in its mainstream Battlecross range, Bridgestone now makes higher performance on sandy tracks attainable for all riders, from national champions to intermediates and beginners.
More deformation, more traction.

Michelin Australia today launched the new MICHELIN StarCross 5 range of motocross tyres.

Available in four versions (Hard, Medium, Soft and Sand) MICHELIN StarCross 5 tyres are designed to give high levels of performance on all types of ground conditions and terrain found in motocross and cross country races.

Lighter casing has reduced weight by as much as 15 percent, with the average across the StarCross 5 range about 10 per cent. The most obvious by-product of trimming the 'fat' is less unspring weight, which has palpable benefits in terms of braking, handling and general manoeuvrability.

The lighter casing is down to a new production technology, with the three-ply nylon design jettisoned in favour of a two-ply polyester construction. Michelin claims the update has not only reduced tyre 'rebound' but lateral rigidity remains unaffected. And the StarCross 5 tyres also also require less 'warm-up' compared to their predecessors.

MXGP stopped in Valkenswaard and the Dutch Brabant region of Holland for round five of eighteen in the FIM Motocross World Championship and the Grand Prix of Europe. The sunshine and spring weather of a week ago in Arco di Trento (Italy) were but a memory in the nice Dutch city that for most of the weekend remained covered by dark clouds and chilled by temperatures below fifteen degrees. The ‘Eurocircuit’ of Valkenswaard has a long Grand Prix tradition and has a soft sandy surface that digs deep during the races and is physically demanding for the riders.

Even though Bridgestone is still a player at the consumer level with the fabulous 403/404 tire combo, they are ready to make a new move into the motocross market with the Battlecross X40.

Using the Battlecross product name for the first time, both new tires exploit Bridgestone’s advanced MX tread and block design technology, developed and proven at the highest level of motocross competition.

The X40 is a hard-pack tire.
