Avon Tyres, a traditional motorcycle tire brand, will be given a new direction under the Goodyear brand group. After the integration in 2022, Goodyear is looking positively to the future and, with Avon and Dunlop, is now presenting a comprehensive range of motorcycle tires for European motorcyclists. Avon's portfolio will focus on the most popular products and will sensibly complement the Dunlop motorcycle tire product range.
Well-known tire profiles in the Avon motorcycle tire range include the Avon Cobra Chrome (custom tire), Avon Roadrider MKII (bias touring tire), AVON 3D SUPERSPORT (hypersport tire), Avon Spirit ST (sport touring tire), Avon Streetrunner (bias tire), Avon Trailrider and Avon Trekrider (travel enduro tire), AVON SAFETY MILEAGE and AVON SPEEDMASTER (classic tire) and the Viper Stryke (scooter tire).
Goodyear's long-term strategy is to use the motorcycle competence center in Montlucon (France) to drive the development of both brands. Many of the Dunlop brand's premium motorcycle tires as well as the racing tires for the Moto2 World Championship™ and the Endurance World Championship (EWC) are developed and produced in Montlucon.
During the Motorcycle Trophies, MICHELIN ROAD CLASSIC received the prize for the best motorcycle equipment of the year. This tire intended for neo-retro motorcycles combines driving pleasure and safety.
Michelin does not forget classic motorcycles with the new Michelin Road Classic tire which uses the group's latest technologies. It was Franck Ferreira da Silva, Business Segment Manager Michelin who came to collect his prize.

MICHELIN ROAD CLASSIC - Replacing the successful MICHELIN Pilot Activ, the new MICHELIN Road Classic will be available in dealers from January 2021 and combines an attractive retro tread design with the latest materials and technologies.
The directional tread pattern of the MICHELIN Road Classic range, with a groove to tread-rubber ratio of 26%, strikes the perfect balance between performance and aesthetics by employing slick centre and shoulder areas for optimum contact with the road and excellent dry grip. In wet conditions, the 100 per cent silica rubber compound and chamfered groove edges, which break through surface water, offer high levels of grip in these difficult conditions, with no compromise in terms of longevity.
The casing of a motorcycle tyre must provide a reliable and durable solution to the complex equation of carrying the load of the bike and rider/pillion, being comfortable, maintaining high speeds without deforming, and limiting the heat generated between its different components to reduce wear rates.
In order to protect the tube from the spoke heads of the rim, you should check the rim tape for damage every time you mount the tire and replace it if necessary.
The rim tapes are not only available in different inch sizes, starting from 12 to 21 inches, but also in certain dimensions in different widths. 15 inches are available in 38 or 46 mm or a 16 inch even in 4 widths 23, 28, 30, 60 mm so that they fit exactly into the rim well and do not slip. For motorcycle tires, these are made almost entirely of rubber.
PIRELLI PHANTOM SPORTSCOMP RS is a new competition tyre also approved for road use, designed for motorcycles with eighteen-inch wheels and intended for classic sprint and endurance races.
PHANTOM SPORTSCOMP RS combines the historic tread design of the iconic PHANTOMTM SPORTSCOMP with the latest technology for high performance track tyres, and is designed for contemporary classic racing applications.
The main advantages offered to the rider are the quick warm-up and the wide range of operating temperatures that allows entry to the track even without tyre warmers. PHANTOM™ SPORTSCOMP RS offers great consistency as the bike is lent over thanks to a dual-radius profile optimised for use on older chassis; once on the racing line at full lean, the large footprint area communicates control to the front and grip to the rear tyre.
Avon Tyres has launched its eagerly-anticipated AVON ROADRIDER MKII sport touring motorcycle tyre, whichbrings several design and performance improvements over its predecessor.
Key benefits of the Avon Roadrider MKII include better grip in wet and dry conditions, reduced wear and shorter braking distances. Wet testing indicates a sizeable improvement in stopping distance compared to the Avon Roadrider.
By introducing an updated sport touring tyre, Avon Tyres is aiming to cement its position as a leading player in the market. In fact, its Roadrider tyre is factory fitted to Royal Enfield’s 350cc bikes.
Overall, the Roadrider MKII is available in 31 sizes and 37 specifications, covering H and V speed ratings and universal options. In addition to the expanded size offering, a classic tread and sidewall appearance makes the tyre suitable for bikes of all ages.
Specially developed for Maxi Classic Racing, this tyre has already proven its superior performance. While still in development, the Bridgestone Battlax Classic Racing CR11 was a winner at the FIM Europe classic endurance championship (EEC). At the 4-hours Biker’s Classic in Spa-Francorchamps, it helped #10 Poweracing-Japauto take home first place and team #5 Roadrunner pick up the second place. In damp and tricky conditions, the best lap time and the
fastest pace were recorded with Bridgestone tyres.
The Battlax Classic Racing CR11 offers super-fast warm up - vitally important for races that don’t allow tyre warmers. The tread pattern is derived from Bridgestone’s grooved racing tyre, Battlax Racing R11. It gives the rider consistent grip and superior performance. With its high-performance V-MS-Belt (variable monospiral belt) construction on the front, this tyre provides
excellent braking stability and offers extra feedback when cornering. On the rear tyre, a combination of high-racing performance compounds in a 3-layer compound configuration boost performance in the wet. Compliant with the FIM Europe regulations for the Maxi Classic, this tyre is your ticket to racing success.
Available from March 2020, in size 110/80 R18 for the front and 150/65 R18 for the rear.
