NHTSA recalls Triumph motorcycles: Tire carcass has weak points
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated a recall for Triumph motorcycles in October 2024 after the manufacturer pointed out possible tire problems. Affected are models with Tiger 1200 that were factory-equipped with Metzeler Tourance Next, Metzeler Tourance Next II or Pirelli Scorpion Trail II.
About 3100 tires was recalled in the US from Pirelli. All the recalled tires in the specific tire size 150/70 R18 was produced in Germany.
Studies have shown that the tire casing of these models is subject to accelerated wear under certain conditions, such as low tire pressure and high load. This can cause the steel belt to tear and the tread to separate from the tire. The result is a sudden loss of air, unstable handling and an increased risk of accidents.
Triumph dealers in the USA will replace the affected tires free of charge.
