In the edition nr13 06/2017, the Europes nr1 magazine "MOTORRAD" has finally addressed the subject of the motorcycle tyre age more extensively. Thus, two sets of Michelin Power 2CT DOT 2515 were tested, one of which was stored in a cool and dry place, the second in a direct sun in a greenhouse to make it even faster.
DOT Nummber - "Department of Transportation" tyre age code
Conclusion: "If the storage conditions are favorable, the tires are durable for many years, but they are often much faster in use. Only in the extreme test in the rain did the performance decrease slightly. "

16 percent more traction*
19 percent better durability**
MICHELIN CITY EXTRA - From 10 to 18 inches in 21 different tire sizes, the tire should be available from 2022. Probably as the successor to the MICHELIN CITY PRO. which has been on the market since 2014.
In recent years, more and more motorcyclists are on the road and making it a means of transportation to work or leisure. There are also many who make motorcycles as a source of income after losing their jobs due to being laid off due to the pandemic.
For riders who make motorcycles their primary transportation, the most important thing is in economic terms which involves maintenance and care. As much as possible they try to find ways to reduce costs; use the best products that are not only affordable but at the same time durable.
The MICHELIN ROAD 6 is already ready for the 2022 season, whereby each of its 5 predecessors had always set the bar a little higher in their own way.
The MICHELIN Road 6 tire brings enthusiasts multiple new features designed to improve wet grip, longevity and appearance on a range of motorcycles.
The new tire, available now, is designed to improve performance for roadster, trail, sport and GT motorcycles and is available in the standard MICHELIN Road 6 tire range, as well as the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tire range for larger, heavier touring motorcycles.
Technologies from Michelin’s research centers around the world, coupled with the class-leading technology of the tire’s predecessor, the MICHELIN® Road 5 tire, leverage two decades of innovation to bring riders the following benefits:
Wet grip: The MICHELIN Road 6 tire has 15% more grip than its predecessor in wet conditions thanks to silica technology tread compounds and a new tread pattern featuring MICHELIN Water Evergrip Technology™.1
Longevity: The MICHELIN Road 6 tire delivers 10% longer tread life compared with the previous generation.2
Tread design: An optimized ratio of grooves to rubber, known as the void ratio, gives improved grip performance in both wet and dry conditions. This ratio is not compromised when cornering, so riders have constant and accurate feedback from their tires. The MICHELIN® X-Sipe Technology™ combined with MICHELIN® Water Evergrip Technology™ ensures the tire has consistent grip throughout conditions and maintains its grip even as the tire wears – giving riders confidence in the tire from the first mile to the last mile. There are also new groove and sipe angles with longer edges that cut through water film and maintain road grip.

Michelin has been the official tyre supplier to the MotoGP™ class since 2016, bringing their excellence and expertise to the world’s fastest motorcycle racing Championship. Since, MotoGP™ has enjoyed one of its most competitive eras of all time as lap records are routinely broken, and it just keeps getting closer. Each of the ten closest top 15 finishes in premier class history have occurred since 2018, and the closest ever was the 2021 Grand Prix of Doha.
In the two-wheeler tyre segment, the worldwide motorcycle leisure and commuting market is expected to see a 3% CAGR between 2019 and 2023. Also expressed as a baseline of 100 units in 2019, the market shrank 10% last year due to the pandemic, and is expected to rebound to 98% of 2019 levels by the end of this year. This is attributed to an expected 10% increase in the use of bicycles and scooters by 2030, according to Michelin.
In terms of passenger vehicle and motorcycle tyre trends, volume is expressed as a percentage of the 100% baseline from 2019, which is the year before the pandemic. The OE (original equipment) world market for passenger car tyres is expected to see a 0.5% compounding annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2019 to 2023, while the replacement world market is expected to record a 0.7% CAGR over the same period.
The enormous problems with container shipping from the Far East or South America causes delivery problems up to the interruption of the supply chain, as is currently happening in the Suez Canal with a transverse container ship.
The tire industry is not spared from this either.
Since most motorcycle tires are not produced in Europe, there are already enormous delivery delays.
We therefore recommend all motorcyclists to get a suitable set of motorcycle tires in time, so that they can start the 2021 season without hesitation..

A lasting collaboration founded on the two brands’ shared focus on performance, quality and innovation.
The MICHELIN Scorcher Adventure, for 80 percent road use and 20 percent trail use. The MICHELIN Anakee Wild, for high-performance trail use.
The close working relationship Michelin has forged with Harley-Davidson over the past 13 years is driven by the penchant they share for performance, quality and innovation. Today, more than 40 percent of the motorcycles manufactured by the American brand are equipped with the French firm’s products, and the two companies pooled their respective expertise once again during the development of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 which is fitted exclusively with Michelin tires.
MICHELIN ROAD CLASSIC - Replacing the successful MICHELIN Pilot Activ, the new MICHELIN Road Classic will be available in dealers from January 2021 and combines an attractive retro tread design with the latest materials and technologies.
The directional tread pattern of the MICHELIN Road Classic range, with a groove to tread-rubber ratio of 26%, strikes the perfect balance between performance and aesthetics by employing slick centre and shoulder areas for optimum contact with the road and excellent dry grip. In wet conditions, the 100 per cent silica rubber compound and chamfered groove edges, which break through surface water, offer high levels of grip in these difficult conditions, with no compromise in terms of longevity.
The casing of a motorcycle tyre must provide a reliable and durable solution to the complex equation of carrying the load of the bike and rider/pillion, being comfortable, maintaining high speeds without deforming, and limiting the heat generated between its different components to reduce wear rates.
