Designed and developed with a view to equip the latest generation of powerful road bikes characterised by significant technological equipment and electronic control systems, DIABLO ROSSO™ III is a tyre born from the racetrack for the road because it takes advantage of all the research and know-how acquired by Pirelli in the FIM Superbike World Championship, in the last twelve years of participation in its capacity as Official Tyre Supplier.

MXGP stopped in Valkenswaard and the Dutch Brabant region of Holland for round five of eighteen in the FIM Motocross World Championship and the Grand Prix of Europe. The sunshine and spring weather of a week ago in Arco di Trento (Italy) were but a memory in the nice Dutch city that for most of the weekend remained covered by dark clouds and chilled by temperatures below fifteen degrees. The ‘Eurocircuit’ of Valkenswaard has a long Grand Prix tradition and has a soft sandy surface that digs deep during the races and is physically demanding for the riders.

The positive experience with the 4.00-18 K28, which is used on the #URAL_RETRO, among other things, has prompted Heidenau to also bring the 4.00-19 dimension onto the market as a sidecar tire. Here too, the large contact area will ensure that the driving forces are distributed optimally and wear is minimized.

Bridgestone has introduced the Racing Battlax V01 racing slick, designed for novices and medium class riders on race circuits. Leveraging Bridgestone’s latest MotoGP compound and contact area technologies, Battlax V01 gives riders the advantage of quick handling, superb cornering, and warm-up performance that will boost any racers’ confidence.

Bridgestone developed new compounds for the Racing Battlax V01, optimising the blend for maximum grip across the selected temperature range. The front V01 tyre with mono-spiral belt construction has a single crown radius providing high stability under the lean angle, while the smaller dual crown radius on the rear improves grip and smoothness.

Compared to the preceding Battlax R01/R02 combination, the V01 has higher construction stiffness and contact feel, producing better lateral grip for cornering. In-house comparative testing shows big improvements in handling, cornering stability and chattering (excessive vibration), with much quicker warm-up performance and significant gains in best and average lap times.

As exclusive tyre supplier to MotoGP racing, Bridgestone works with the best riders, teams and engineers in the world. With an enormous amount of tyre data and experience from MotoGP racing in all conditions and temperatures, Bridgestone has developed advanced racing tyre technologies which it now transfers to its Battlax range of premium track and road tyres.

"For really hard, hard ground, it is not easy to find a tire that provides the necessary grip, has a good shelf life, easy to install as possible and it is still priced in the green range. Selecting the right tire can be the outcome of a race to decide, because at almost the same skill level between two tenths of a competitor often decide who will be achieved not least through a good tire.

Many amateur riders look around on the international race in the paddock and see what the stars tires mounted on their rims are, and act accordingly. There may well be that it is not a tire on the market is because the big teams often receive material that is only tested long before the dealer on the shelf. What many do not know is that manufacturers offer, for example, the GP pilot various rubber mixtures of the same profile on different surfaces which can be very helpful for the drivers.

Michelin will bring to market two new motorcycle tyres designed for road use.

The new MICHELIN Pilot Road 3 range will target users of sport touring bikes while a new version of the MICHELIN Power Pure sports tyre will be added to the current lineup.

Spearheading the sport touring lineup, the Cwas designed to deliver superior grip in all conditions of use – whether on wet or damp – as well as outstanding total mileage. The tyre reflects MICHELIN’s across-the-board R&D strategy of improving individual tyre performance characteristics without sacrificing others. In this instance, MICHELIN

Technology centre engineers developed X Sipe Technology (XST), which integrates unique dual-action sipes into the tread. The sipe ribs first cut through the surface of the water, which is then evacuated faster and more effectively toward the outside of the tyre through wide grooves.

In addition to its grip, the MICHELIN Pilot Road 3 also offers improved longevity by combining the MICHELIN XST technology and the tyre maker’s latest-generation dual-compound tread, called MICHELIN 2CT.

Nine sizes of the tyre will be available in January 2011, with seven others to be introduced between February and August.

With the new Sportec M5 Interact, the premium German brand opens a new chapter in motorcycle tire construction: an innovative 5 zone tension technology inside brings a custom-tailored grip level, excellent handling and confident stability at every lean angle demanded in any driving condition.

This technology, along with Greek “Pi”-inspired tread grooves specifically placed for maximizing tire flexibility and new high-silica compounds for supreme dry grip and wet confidence, elevates the Sportec M5 Interact as the ideal tire for all sport bikes and naked bikes, from its high performance capabilities to its clean all-round look.

Following the sport-touring Roadtec Z6 Interact and the racing-oriented Racetec Interact, comes the new Sportec M5 Interact, the perfect all-round supersport tire from Metzeler boasting innovative Interact Technology.
This all-encompassing approach to development perfectly matches the tire’s structure, 0°-steel belt, tread design and compounds for a combination of high performance even in wet conditions, rideability and wear uniformity.

Interact: 5 Zones Tension Technology

Metzeler engineers answered the most diverse requirements of the supersport segment with a new stage of development on the tensions of the tire’s steel-belt: The new Sportec M5 Interact boasts five well-defined zones over the entire contour of the tire, achieving always the best grip lean for each angle, stability and constant feedback.

This diagram shows the different tension and grip zones of the Metzeler Sportec M5 Tire. Interact technology is a precise tuning of the high-tech steel belt winding tensions combined with a perfectly matched carcass, without the discontinuity experienced by alternative multi-compound products. With this new structure, Metzeler engineers also succeeded in optimizing the total area of the tire footprint at every lean angle with up to an 8% increase, while improving also its shape and pressure distribution. This success is felt in every situation: with an increased stability in a straight line, better contact feel at the central part of the curve and safe grip at full lean.

The tread pattern of the new Sportec M5 Interact is the result of an extensive series of tests to achieve high effectiveness in dry (stability) and wet (drainage) conditions, but also provides an increased life for the tire.

The registered design of the Sportec M5 Interact tire tread resembles the Greek letter "Pi", a component to the formula of a perfect circle. The shape and distribution the tread grooves contributes to the overall performance of the Sportec M5 Interact with very effective water drainage as well as a superb flexibility. This increased flexibility complements the Interact-based tire structure in maintaining an optimized contact area to avoid slippage which positively affects wear uniformity and thus mileage.

High Silica Mixture

The two newly developed tread compounds of the Sportec M5, unique between front and rear, seamlessly partner with the Interact structure. Derived from a completely new mixing procedure and produced with a larger percentage of silica, they bring top-of-segment adhesion on dry land as well as uncompromising confidence in wet conditions, still keeping a rapid warm-up time for a maximum supersport grip level right from the first pull of the throttle.

Lean Indicator

An additional motorcycle tire first comes from the Sportec M5’s new lean indicator which offers riders visual confirmation of the maximum level of the tire’s usage: riders can verify which of the 5-stage markings were contacted while riding. The five lean indicator markings are placed on the shoulder of the rear tire where the profile meets the road surface at angles of approximately 25°, 30°, 35°, 40° and 45° (depending on vehicle weight and tire pressure).

The new Sportec M5 Interact will be available starting from the 1st of February, 2010
