Avon's Trailrider dual sport rubber comes as standard on the new KTM 790 Adventure

British motorcycle brand Avon Tyres is the original equipment (OE) fitment for the KTM 790 ADVENTURE launched at EICMA 2018 (6-11 November), in Milan.

As a lightweight, high performance bike that is equally happy on the street as it is off-road, the KTM 790 ADVENTURE has spoked wheels in true off-road sizes. With a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear, these come fitted with AVON TRAILRIDER tyres – a dual sport option.

Avon has been developing motorcycle tyres for more than a century, and its TrailRider adventure sport touring tyre provides extra mileage, stability and grip in all weather conditions on all surfaces.

The TrailRider features the latest in carcass construction technology along with Avon’s tri-compound tread, which provides a softer compound on the tread edge, for more grip; a harder centre compound for mileage, and a low-hysteresis bonding compound under the surface tread. The tread compounds themselves are very high in silica, for superb wet weather performance.

The company’s tyre innovations include the ContiTrailAttack 3, the third generation of the agile onroad/offroad tyre.

An abundance of impressive innovations makes the ContiTrailAttack 3 a true all-rounder for adventuring and for everyday use. It offers remarkable agility, which it is able to achieve following an extremely short warm-up run of no more than 1500 meters - this is all it requires to reach its optimum operating temperature. In addition, the new Continental Adventurer masters off-road and asphalt routes just as easily as it does varying road conditions, from bone dry to completely saturated.

Thanks to the smooth interaction of the three cornerstones caused by Continental´s MutiGrip-technology with extra abrasion-resistant center section, balanced carcass construction and the special profile design, the ContiTrailAttack3 becomes a faithful friend with consistently reliable properties throughout its entire lifetime: Superior agility, precise handling, high comfort and sensitive feedback are the result of this extraordinarily effective Continental technology.

Afraid about a highsider or a sliding front tyre ?

Now Bosch wants to take things further by introducing anti-slide technology.

Bosch the German technology firm is attempting to use high-pressure gas that's forced out of a nozzle to help right a sliding motorcycle.

The technology being tested isn't new though, and is similar to the technique used by astronauts to navigate in zero gravity. The Bosch anti-slide system uses a device similar to the airbag inflator in cars to provide an external lateral force when the tyres of a motorcycle lose traction. In other words, when a bike begins to slide and fall, pressurised gas thrusters will repulse and straighten the bike.

DUNLOP GEOMAX MX33 launched.

  • Geomax MX33: Successor to the MX3S soft terrain tyre
  • New MXGP proven technologies
  • An industry first from Dunlop – an MX tyre for multi-terrain use

Last year, Dunlop tested new technologies in MXGP races. An improved tread pattern was tested with tie-bars between shoulder blocks.

This, coupled with a new block arrangement provided higher resistance against cracking when ridden on firm intermediate terrain. Dunlop also found this resistance was also helped by an all-new compound with higher shear resistance. By incorporating such technologies into the Geomax MX33, Dunlop has created a tyre with a greater range of capabilities than its forerunner, the race-winning Geomax MX3S.

A million times thinner than a human hair and 200 times stronger than steel is the miracle material, the possible applications seem unrestricted, and now even to find its application in tires.

To use the graphene additive in its compounds, Vittoria has entered into a joint venture with Directa Plus SpA. The company recently announced that it has received the patent for Graphene Plus (G +) tire elastomer composition. G + simultaneously reduces drag and increases adhesion in automotive, motorcycle and bicycle tires.

The METZELER brand extends the ROADTEC™ 01 range with new X-ply sizes

The METZELER brand extends its range of the well-known Sport Touring tyre, ROADTEC™ 01 , with existing radial fitments now complemented by brand new X-ply sizes. Available from March 2018 onwards, the new range extension will provide may more fitments for the highly successful and award-winning tyre.

Highly appreciated since its early 2016 introduction, with victories in the comparative tests of some of the most prestigious international motorcycle magazines, METZELER’s new ROADTEC™ 01 X-ply sizes will provide fitments for older motorcycles as well as the new, smaller capacity motorcycles making a strong return to the market.

Compared to the radial version, ROADTEC™ 01 X-ply features the use of different structures and compounds. In this way METZELER applied the best solution for each and every application to meet the highest target performance for both radial and X-ply.

A new METZELER enduro motorcycle tyre extends the KAROO™ range towards a dedicated road use, combining excellent agility and grip, even in wet conditions, with reliable off-road traction.

Delivering excellent road performance, even in wet conditions, the new enduro tyre remains aggressively styled, with its knobbly tread pattern continuing to provide off-road capability.

Owners of adventure, ‘enduro street’ and dual purpose motorcycles are increasingly looking for sport touring performance when used on asphalt, but without sacrificing off-road capabilities. While responding to this market request, however, the METZELER KAROO™ Street maintains an off-road look, in character with these type of motorcycles, while delivering excellent road performance on both dry and wet asphalt.

The METZELER KAROO™ Street tyre has been developed for the latest generation of adventure, big enduro and dual purpose motorcycles, capable of taking dirt roads in their stride. With the KAROO™ Street tyre these motorcycles will now be further enhanced to tackle distant road journeys, where good mileage, stability and comfort are fundamental throughout the life-cycle of the tyre.

Dunlop has announced they will launch a fourth new tyre in their hypersport portfolio in March 2018. The Dunlop SportSmart TT has been developed to meet the needs of riders with the very latest sports bikes and performance roadsters who want to use the same tyre on track and for road riding.

The name SportSmart TT derives from Dunlop’s road focused SportSmart range and adds the letters TT, which refer to “Track Technology”.

The launch of the SportSmart TT marks Dunlop’s comeback to a segment of the market where they last competed with the renowned Qualifier RR over a decade ago.

The SportSmart TT is the fourth new Dunlop hypersport tyre to be launched in the past year and completes Dunlop’s strategy, announced last year, of taking a new approach to the segment in redefining their range around the goal of a ‘tyre for every rider’.
