The improvement in the area of the mixture - compared to the ME 880 MARATHON was achieved through a material update in the manufacturing process of the new "M 888". For a significant increase in mileage, the polymers now have better abrasion behavior and at the same time strengthen tire adhesion - even in the wet. Properties that the new ME 888 MARATHON ™ Ultra retains over the entire service life of the tire.
Changes to the structure and carcass also have a positive effect on mileage. With the ME 888 MARATHON Ultra, the individual tire layers are larger and wider than with conventional tire structures. The geometry of the layers reduces tire deformation on the contact area. This ensures a more even contact pressure, thus lowers heat development and helps the "ME 888" to achieve a higher mileage and a consistent performance over the entire service life.
The increased mileage of the ME 888 MARATHON Ultra was also achieved through a modified profile design. To ensure more even wear, the "ME 888" has a new ratio of positive to negative profile. In addition, the new profile arrangement is more resistant. This puts less stress on the mixture and tire structure, which in turn reduces overall wear. In addition, the new tread arrangement ensures the best possible water drainage, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning and further increases driving safety.
Last but not least, thanks to its new tire contour, the ME 888 MARATHON Ultra has a five percent shorter but 15 percent wider contact area than the ME 880 MARATHON ™. The longer the contact area is, the more it influences the rolling behavior, the abrasion and thus also the wear and tear. Due to the shorter and wider contact area with the road, the tire movements on the ME 888 MARATHON Ultra are less. At the same time, the wider contact area transmits the engine power much better, which means that tire slip is reduced and the mileage is higher.
